Pop-Talk by Nico Escondido

Nico Escondido is an owner, Director, and the Chief Cannabis Officer of Trans High Corporation, the parent company for all High Times brands, including all media and event platforms. Since 2006, Mr. Escondido has penned hundreds of articles relating to the cultivation, science, and technologies involved with the cannabis plant. In 2010, when High Times moved its iconic Cannabis Cup event from Amsterdam to the U.S., Mr. Escondido was tasked with taking over the competition and bringing it into the modern medical age through lab testing, patient-testing, digital algorithms, and online apps, all while navigating the complex regulatory and compliance issues of each medical marijuana state where the event was held.

In 2014, Mr. Zitelli founded the Cannabis Genetics Institute (CGI) in Holland. CGI is a well-known research and development institute in regards to breeding customized medicinal strains of cannabis for patients in need. CGI has partnered with both Steep Hill Labs in Berkeley, CA as well as the Cannabis Genomic Research Initiative (CGRI) at the University of Colorado, Boulder, leading to breakthrough research in the realm of marker-assisted breeding to create ailment-specific medicinal marijuana strains. Education and open-source information remain a vital part of the CGI mission.

Known around the industry as an expert in cannabis genetics, plant sciences and photobiology, Mr. Escondido has lectured extensively at events around the world and consulted with dozens of cannabis companies on the technical issues surrounding cannabis cultivation, genetics, and lab and garden technologies.

In 2018, is Mr. Escondido was asked to be the CEO of Applied Cannabis Sciences of New Jersey (ACS), heading a group of industry professionals which carries over a twenty MMJ licenses across several states in the U.S. ACS is currently participating in the new Jersey RFA process for the new medicinal and recreational marijuana licenses being awarded across the state.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Mr. Escondido currently resides in Montclair, NJ with his wife and son.
